Job Description

The Equipment Operator will support the construction and installation of landfill gas collection and other environmental control systems. This is a hands-on field position responsible for safely operating heavy construction equipment, supporting excavation and gas well construction, and assisting field crews with general site activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy construction equipment used for excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, and site development.
• Operate equipment such as excavators, dozers, backhoes, loaders, graders, forklifts, tractors, dump trucks, and similar machinery.
• Support landfill gas well construction by moving, lifting, and placing materials during drilling and well completion activities.
• Perform excavation and earthmoving work around landfill gas piping and environmental systems.
• Assist with hand excavation when working near utilities or other sensitive areas.
• Complete daily pre-use equipment inspections, including checking fuel, oil, lubricants, and hydraulic fluids.
• Identify and report mechanical issues, equipment damage, or maintenance needs.
• Follow established safety requirements for heavy equipment operation, excavation, trenching, backfilling, and well construction.
• Work closely with field technicians, laborers, supervisors, and subcontractors to complete project activities safely and efficiently.

Skills and Requirements

• 5-8 years of heavy equipment operating experience.
• Experience operating multiple types of construction equipment, particularly excavators, dozers, backhoes, and loaders.
• Strong knowledge of safe heavy-equipment operating practices.
• Experience with excavation, trenching, grading, and/or backfilling.
• Ability to read and understand equipment operating manuals.
• Strong awareness of jobsite safety and surrounding personnel/utilities.
• Comfortable working outdoors in an active construction environment.
• Ability to perform hands-on field work when equipment operation is not required.
• Previous landfill gas (LFG) construction experience.
• Experience working around landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS).
• Environmental construction or landfill experience.
• Experience supporting gas well drilling or well-completion activities.
• Experience excavating around underground piping or utilities. Familiarity with trenching and excavation safety requirements.
