The Senior Fiber Splicer is responsible for splicing fiber optic cables in aerial, underground, and indoor environments. The role requires attention to detail in setting up splice locations, termination points, and general fiber optic construction.
**Please note that this role will be based out of our office location in Doral, FL and working in the field. Our ideal candidate will reside within a 1-hour commute of the Doral, FL area.
This position will work a regular shift (hours are 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM), but may be required to respond to calls outside of regular business hours.
Key Responsibilities
Install, turn-up, test, and provisionSONET, WDM, and Ethernet equipment in optical fiber networks according to engineered designs.
Performsplicingon new construction and restoration for various cable types, including Loose Tube, Ribbon, Micro, OPGW, and others.
Work onactive splicingin cables containing both dark fiber and lit services.
Conduct and validatenetwork equipment testingto meet Zayo procedures and manufacturer specifications.
Collaborate with theNetwork Operations Center (NOC)for final acceptance and testing of installed equipment and network rings.
Usefiber optic, SONET, Ethernet, and SDH test equipment, including OTDR, PMD, Optical Spectrum Analyzer, BER Test Sets, and Sniffers.
Performsite surveysfor remote locations to ensure quality installation of racks, equipment, and fiber cable.
Label and tagequipment and cabling according to network engineering diagrams.
Report defects to the Operations Manager or OSP Project Engineer.
Performadvanced troubleshootingand assist the NOC and customers with problem resolution.
Participate in theon-call rotationfor nights and weekends.
Skills & Qualifications
Experience withtelecommunications cable splicing, SONET, Ethernet, DWDM, and network troubleshooting.
Proficiency withspectrum analyzers, OTDR, PMD, and BER test sets.
Ability to work outdoors and in remote locations.
High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree preferred.
Valid driver's license and ability to maintain an acceptable driving record.
Experience withconstruction projects, equipment installation, and maintenance records management.
Estimated base pay range for this role is $2 8.07 - $ 43.22 USD / hour
