Job Title: Field Technician - Trackhoe / Fine Grade Crew
Job Description
This role supports busy grading and commercial sitework projects by operating trackhoes and related equipment, assisting with utility digging and backfilling, and helping prepare sites for pipe installation and fine grading. You will work outdoors on active construction sites, contributing directly to safe, efficient, and well-organized project execution.
Responsibilities
Operate trackhoes and other heavy equipment to support grading and commercial sitework activities.
Perform utility digging and backfilling tasks in accordance with project plans and site requirements.
Assist with pipe installation by measuring materials, staging them, and delivering them to pipe layers.
Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area throughout each shift.
Interpret grade stakes and follow site development plans and blueprints as directed.
Support fine grade crew activities, including preparing surfaces to specified elevations and tolerances.
Use equipment such as bulldozers, rollers, and skid steers when needed to complete site preparation tasks.
Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors to coordinate daily work and adjust to changing site conditions.
Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working on open construction sites and around heavy equipment.
Perform general skilled labor tasks as required to keep projects moving on schedule.
Essential Skills
At least 6 months of prior construction experience or experience working outdoors on a landscape crew.
Ability to perform utility digging, trenching, and backfilling in a safe and efficient manner.
Basic familiarity with equipment operation, especially trackhoes and other earthmoving machinery.
Comfort reading and working from grade stakes and site development instructions.
Ability to assist with pipe laying activities, including measuring and handling materials.
Strong awareness of safety practices on active construction sites.
Physical ability to walk extensively, work on uneven terrain, and perform manual labor in outdoor conditions.
Willingness to work in dirt, dust, and varying weather conditions, including sun exposure.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers, rollers, and skid steers.
Exposure to commercial sitework projects and grading operations.
Ability to read and understand basic blueprints and site plans.
Experience working as part of a fine grade crew or supporting fine grading tasks.
Demonstrated reliability and commitment to long-term employment on construction projects.
Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills in a field environment.

Work Environment

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
