Field Service Technician - Ceiling Systems (Operating Rooms)
Job Description
This field-based role focuses on the installation, commissioning, and certification of specialized ceiling systems in hospital operating rooms. You will lead onsite activities, train customer installation crews, resolve construction and design conflicts, and verify air and filter performance in accordance with established procedures. The position combines hands-on mechanical work, customer-facing service, and detailed project documentation, with frequent travel to active healthcare construction sites and operational hospitals.
Responsibilities
Install and support the installation of ceiling systems in operating rooms, ensuring compliance with company procedures and project specifications.
Train customer installation crews on proper installation methods, safety practices, and system operation to ensure high-quality and consistent results.
Problem-solve construction conflicts onsite, working closely with general contractors, trades, and project teams to resolve mechanical and structural issues.
Certify air and filter performance for installed systems by following established testing and verification procedures.
Coordinate with customer project managers to schedule site visits, travel, and onsite work at key milestones in the construction schedule.
Review design documentation, including drawings, blueprints, and submittals, to understand project requirements and identify potential conflicts before and during installation.
Collaborate with the engineering team and customer stakeholders to resolve design details and technical questions.
Generate detailed project reports after each site visit, documenting work performed, test results, issues encountered, and follow-up actions.
Provide post-installation troubleshooting support, both onsite and remotely, to address performance issues, customer concerns, and system adjustments.
Use basic carpentry and HVAC tools safely and effectively while working on ladders, scaffolding, and lifts.
Maintain courteous, professional communication with customers, project managers, and internal teams in verbal, written, and interpersonal interactions.
Follow all site safety requirements and use provided personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in active construction areas and operational hospital environments.
Essential Skills
Minimum three years of experience in the HVAC and/or carpentry industry.
Proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints, submittals, and cut sheets.
Hands-on experience with field service, installation, and mechanical troubleshooting.
Ability to diagnose and resolve issues related to HVAC, mechanical systems, and construction interfaces.
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, especially in dynamic construction environments.
Customer service orientation with a professional, courteous communication style.
Experience using basic carpentry and HVAC tools and working comfortably on ladders, scaffolding, and lifts.
Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to travel domestically 10-15 days per month, which equates to approximately 40-60% of the year.
Comfort working in hospitals, including facilities that are actively operating.
Physical ability to be on your feet for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs, using assistance or equipment for heavier items.

Experience in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, maintenance, or installation.
Field service experience in construction, HVAC, or related mechanical environments.
Leadership capabilities, including supervising or guiding customer installation crews.
Project management exposure, including coordinating schedules and managing multiple tasks across different sites.

Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, and construction teams.
Comfort working in a travel-heavy role and managing time and priorities across multiple projects.

Work Environment
This is a travel-heavy, field-based position that combines office work with frequent visits to hospitals and active construction sites. You will typically spend part of your time in an office setting handling documentation, coordination, and reporting, and approximately 10-15 days per month traveling to hospital projects across different regions. Many assignments take place in hospitals that are already operational, so you must feel comfortable working in clinical environments and adhering to strict safety and cleanliness standards. Onsite work often occurs in active construction zones where you will be on your feet, working from ladders, scaffolding, and lifts, and handling materials up to 50 lbs, with assistance or equipment for heavier loads. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and expected to be used at all times in accordance with site safety rules. Standard tools for carpentry and HVAC work are used regularly, and basic business software such as Microsoft Office supports your planning and reporting activities.

This is a Permanent position based out of Minneapolis, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
Also: HSA, voluntary dental, and company-paid life and disability insurance.
Retirement: 401(k) with discretionary profit sharing.
Time off: 80 hours vacation, 48 hours PTO, and 9 paid holidays per year.
