Job Title: Mechanic
Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to work in a family-owned, full-service repair and custom truck manufacturing shop that specializes in body swaps, truck installations, hydraulic and electrical repair, and DOT inspections on heavy-duty trucks and equipment. You will perform a wide range of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and fabrication tasks on vehicles such as tow trucks, garbage trucks, construction equipment, and other heavy-duty trucks, contributing directly to safe, reliable, and customized fleet operations.
Responsibilities
Perform repairs on heavy equipment and trucks, including dump trucks, hook lifts, roll-offs, rear loader garbage trucks, street sweepers, and yard trucks.
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues involving hydraulics, pumps, meters, and valves to ensure proper operation of all systems.
Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues, with a focus on 12-volt systems and related wiring and components.
Carry out trailer and truck repairs, including replacing doors, interior and exterior side walls, and repairing or replacing marker lights and brake lights.
Resolve mechanical problems on trailers and trucks such as dolly leg issues and air compressor malfunctions.
Upfit and modify equipment as needed to meet specific operational or custom requirements.
Read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics to guide diagnostics, repairs, and installations.
Apply welding fundamentals to support repairs, modifications, and fabrication work on truck bodies and components.
Use fabrication tools, such as plasma cutters and drills, to perform custom work and structural repairs.
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and services completed.
Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, shop procedures, and quality standards during repair and fabrication work.
Collaborate with team members to complete complex repairs and custom projects efficiently and safely.
Use personal tools along with shop equipment to perform daily tasks and maintain a high standard of workmanship.
Conduct inspections of heavy-duty trucks and equipment to identify issues and recommend appropriate repairs or upgrades.
Essential Skills
At least 3+ years of experience as a mechanic working on heavy equipment and trucks.
Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and components, including pumps, meters, valves, and related controls.
Experience diagnosing and repairing pneumatic and diesel systems on heavy-duty vehicles.
Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues, particularly 12-volt systems and associated wiring.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
Foundational welding skills applicable to repair, modification, and fabrication work.
Hands-on experience working with heavy equipment and truck repairs in a shop environment.
Capability to perform trailer and truck body repairs, including doors, side walls, lights, and structural components.
Ability to maintain accurate maintenance and repair records and follow established procedures.
Commitment to adhering to safety regulations and standards while working with heavy equipment and fabrication tools.
Ability to provide and use some personal tools required for daily mechanical tasks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience using fabrication tools such as plasma cutters and drills for custom work and structural repairs.
Experience in custom truck work, including upfitting and modifying vehicles for specialized applications.
Advanced welding skills for more complex fabrication and repair projects.
Familiarity with DOT inspection standards and procedures for heavy-duty trucks.
Comfort working with a variety of heavy-duty vehicles, including tow trucks, garbage trucks, and construction equipment.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex mechanical and electrical issues.
Attention to detail and a focus on quality workmanship in all repairs and customizations.

The facility is designed to support efficient workflow, safety, and high-quality mechanical and fabrication work, providing a modern and well-maintained space for daily operations.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
