Communications Technician (Structured Cabling / Low Voltage)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Communications Technician to join a growing team supporting large-scale commercial, enterprise, and data center environments. This is a hands-on, field-based role ideal for candidates with strong structured cabling experience who are looking to grow into leadership and project coordination responsibilities.

What You'll Be DoingInstallation & Cabling
Install and terminate CAT5e, CAT6 (and CAT3 as needed) cabling
Set up workstation outlets (floor, wall, and modular furniture)
Mount faceplates, patch panels, and surface mount boxes
Perform cable pulls and route cabling according to industry standards
Closet Buildouts
Install and dress racks, ladder racks, patch panels, and backboards
Terminate and label 110/66 blocks and patch panels
Install fiber optic cabling and hardware
Ensure proper grounding of racks and equipment
Testing & Troubleshooting
Perform continuity testing on horizontal and riser cables
Use tools such as tone generators and volt-ohm meters
Troubleshoot opens, shorts, crossed pairs, and transposed pairs
Identify active voice and data circuits
Leadership & Project Support
Lead and support a small crew on job sites
Coordinate work schedules and assist with project timelines
Train junior technicians and ensure quality workmanship
Act as a point of contact with customer representatives onsite
Documentation & Compliance
Accurately complete:
Timesheets
Work orders & change orders
Material and tool tracking
Follow all company, client, and industry safety standards
What We're Looking ForRequired Skills & Experience
2+ years of experience in structured cabling / low voltage installation
Strong experience with:
CAT5e / CAT6 cabling
Cable termination (punchdown, jacks, patch panels)
Cable pulling and pathway installation
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans
Experience working in commercial environments, data centers, or similar settings
Preferred Experience
Exposure to:
Data centers or semiconductor (fab) environments
Basic IT support or network infrastructure
Experience leading crews or mentoring junior techs
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to:
Lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs
Work at heights (ladders/lifts) and in confined spaces
Must be able to:
Distinguish colors (for cabling)
Read small print and labels
Hear tones/signals during testing
Willingness to travel locally or regionally based on project needs
Reliable attendance and strong work ethic required

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
