What you’ll do
You’ll own the locate process from start to finish:
- Locate with precision using electromagnetic equipment, ground-penetrating radar (GPR), and other advanced tools
- Mark utilities clearly and accurately using standard color codes in compliance with 811 regulations
- Read and interpret maps including blueprints, GIS data, and utility layouts
- Document your work with photos, notes, and digital records using company-provided devices
- Coordinate in the field with crews, project managers, and property owners to identify risks and align on work zones
- Maintain safety standards by following OSHA guidelines and setting up proper traffic control when needed
- Handle field realities including light digging, on-call rotations, overtime, travel, and working in all weather conditions
- Take on additional tasks as needed to support the team
What you’ll need
- High school diploma or GED
- 1–2 years of utility locating or underground construction experience (preferred, not required—we train the right people)
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record (CDL strongly preferred)
- Comfort using mobile apps, GPS tools, and digital reporting systems
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in the field
Physical demands
This is an active, outdoor role. You’ll regularly:
- Walk long distances across uneven terrain
- Bend, stoop, and lift up to 55 lbs
- Work with hands and arms in repetitive or elevated positions
- Operate vehicles and equipment
Occasionally, you may use ladders, work in confined spaces, or climb stairs.
