Responsibilities
As a Heavy Equipment Operator on our Long Haul Travel crew, you will support all phases of utility construction for various types of telecom projects, traveling nationwide. You believe in doing the job right. Being the best. And you’re up for the challenge.
In addition, you will:
- Put safety first by following all company, OSHA, and job-site requirements, maintaining awareness of underground and overhead hazards, and using required PPE.
- Operate heavy equipment for aerial and underground (UGE) long-haul fiber construction, including backhoes, dozers, excavators, cable plows, trenchers, hydraulic reel trailers, PlowCat/PullCat, and other construction machinery.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance to keep machinery safe and job-ready.
- Read and understand utility locates, above-ground utility indicators, and construction plans to protect the crew, public, and existing utilities.
- Work alongside the crew when not operating equipment, assisting with general construction, material handling, site preparation, and other tasks as needed.
- Troubleshoot equipment and field issues and communicate safety concerns promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and support crew productivity and quality.
- Travel to long-haul fiber projects throughout the U.S., typically working 4–5 weeks at a time.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
About You:
- Safety is part of your day-to-day, and you take pride in doing the job safely and correctly.
- You have 2+ years of construction-site heavy equipment experience, including experience operating a dozer and/or backhoe.
- You have experience working around existing underground and overhead utilities and understand the importance of utility locates and safe digging practices.
- You take pride in quality work, have strong problem-solving skills, and enjoy a hands-on approach.
- You can read and understand blueprints, construction plans, and utility locates.
- You enjoy working as part of a team and are willing to get your hands dirty and work alongside the crew when needed.
- You’re looking for long-term projects and gorwth opportunities.
- You have a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a DOT medical card. CDL highly preferred.
- You are comfortable traveling to projects throughout the U.S.
Travel Details:
· Per Diem 7 days a week – rain or shine, while on project.
· Schedule is roughly 4-5 weeks on, 5 days off, on a rotating schedule.
· 50-60 hours per week, overtime applies after 40 hours per week. Work is weather dependent.
MOS Codes 12N, 12V, 21E, and 21J relate well to this position.
Compensation of $26-$35 per hour, based on licenses and experience.
