Mechanical & Robotics Technician
Job Description
The Mechanical & Robotics Technician supports the operations maintenance team by installing, maintaining, and repairing automated packaging and distribution equipment, as well as material handling and pneumatic systems throughout the facility. In this role, you promote a safe working environment, perform preventative maintenance with proper documentation, and troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issues on material handling equipment. You also have the opportunity to mentor junior technicians, build strong working relationships across the operations facility, and help track and manage department inventory.
Responsibilities
Support the operations maintenance team in repairing and maintaining material handling equipment and pneumatic systems throughout the building.
Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
Perform preventative and predictive maintenance routines on material handling equipment, documenting all work accurately and in a timely manner.
Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems related to material handling equipment, including belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and other components.
Apply knowledge of electrical and electronic principles to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
Follow all safety procedures and promote a safe working environment in compliance with equipment and facility safety standards.
Maintain a positive working relationship with colleagues across the operations facility and collaborate effectively with other teams.
Track, store, and manage department inventory, including parts, tools, and supplies.
Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to record maintenance activities, manage work orders, and track equipment performance.
Troubleshoot basic input and output functions on automated conveyor systems and controls.
Repair and maintain material handling equipment in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidelines and safety standards.
Conduct project work related to equipment upgrades, improvements, and maintenance initiatives, applying project management skills as needed.
Perform metal and wood fabrication tasks to support equipment repair and modification.
Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics to guide installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
Operate and maintain robotic or electromechanical systems as part of the facility's automation equipment.
Use power tools and hand tools safely and effectively in daily maintenance activities.
Work flexible schedules, shifts, and areas, including weekends, nights, and holidays, as required by operational needs.
Essential Skills
Experience supporting maintenance of material handling equipment and pneumatic systems.
Ability to install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment.
Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, including working with belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and related components.
Ability to work flexible schedules, shifts, and areas, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
At least 1 year of experience in PC competency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
At least 6 months of recent work experience (within the last 2 years) maintaining equipment, including robotics.
Ability to troubleshoot basic input and output functions on automated systems.
Knowledge of electrical and electronic principles applied to equipment maintenance and repair.
Familiarity with Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety standards in accordance with OEM and general safety standards.
Ability to use power tools and hand tools safely and effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associate or higher degree from a vocational school or college with a focus in the mechanical or electrical field.
2 years of experience with automated conveyor systems and controls.
2 years of experience in the repair of material handling equipment.
2 years of experience conducting predictive and preventative maintenance procedures.
1 year of experience in metal and wood fabrication.
1 year of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
1 year of knowledge and practical experience with electrical and electronic principles.
Experience working with Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety standards in accordance with OEM and safety requirements.
Project management experience related to maintenance or equipment projects.
Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Experience with robotic or electromechanical operation and maintenance.

Work Environment
This role involves working in a dynamic industrial facility with automated packaging, distribution, and material handling equipment. You regularly stand and walk during shifts that may last up to 12 hours, and you may need to move items weighing up to 49 pounds, with average parts and tools weighing around 20 pounds. The physical demands include repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, and walking, as well as frequent manual tasks such as picking, pinching, holding, grasping, and wrist motion with repetitive flexion and rotation. You use foot pedals and require good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Working conditions may include small spaces; exposure to dust, fumes, and odors; hot and cold temperatures both inside and outside; noise; vibration; standing on concrete for long periods; and wet or uneven surfaces. The environment is hands-on, equipment-focused, and fast-paced, requiring attention to safety procedures and comfort with industrial tools and machinery.

This is a Contract position based out of Oak Creek, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
