Job Title: Avionics Manager Job Description
The Avionics Manager leads and grows the avionics department within a corporate aviation MRO / Part 145 repair station environment. This hands-on leader oversees daily avionics operations, guides a team of technicians, supports project quoting and planning, and ensures all work complies with FAA regulations and internal quality standards. The role combines technical expertise in corporate aircraft avionics with strong leadership and project management responsibilities to deliver safe, reliable, and timely avionics solutions for customers.
Responsibilities
Lead day-to-day avionics operations within a corporate aviation MRO / Part 145 repair station environment.
Manage, mentor, and develop a team of avionics technicians, providing technical guidance and performance feedback.
Support and perform avionics troubleshooting, installations, modifications, upgrades, and system integrations on corporate aircraft.
Oversee avionics projects from initial quote and scope definition through planning, execution, and completion.
Develop and support labor estimates, project quotes, and installation schedules in coordination with leadership and customers.
Ensure all avionics work complies with FAA Part 145 repair station regulations, company policies, and safety standards.
Review and approve documentation, work orders, wiring diagrams, installation drawings, maintenance manuals, and technical data.
Monitor quality, safety, and compliance by conducting audits and inspections of avionics work and documentation.
Partner with internal leadership and customers to define project scope, timelines, and resource needs.
Coordinate with production, engineering, and other departments to support efficient workflow and on-time delivery.
Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training to help grow the avionics department and expand capabilities.
Identify and implement process improvements, tooling needs, and best practices to enhance productivity and quality.
Maintain awareness of current avionics technologies, systems, and regulatory changes relevant to corporate aircraft.
Support customer-facing project management activities, including status updates, issue resolution, and post-project follow-up.
Essential Skills
Minimum 5 years of avionics experience within a corporate aviation MRO, repair station, or similar environment.
2-5 years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience overseeing avionics technicians.
Hands-on experience with corporate aircraft avionics systems such as Garmin, Collins, Honeywell, Universal, and similar platforms.
Strong troubleshooting skills for avionics systems, including fault isolation, diagnosis, and corrective action.
Proven experience in avionics installation, modification, upgrades, and system integration on corporate aircraft.
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, installation drawings, maintenance manuals, and technical data.
Working knowledge of FAA Part 145 repair station operations and compliance requirements.
Experience in a corporate aviation and heavy maintenance environment.
Background in avionics electrical work and aircraft electrical maintenance.
Familiarity with project management principles in an MRO or repair station setting.
Strong focus on safety, quality, compliance, and production efficiency.
Effective communication skills to interact with technicians, leadership, and customers.
Proficiency in reviewing, completing, and maintaining accurate work orders and maintenance records.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
FAA Airframe or A&P Certificate is preferred.
FCC GROL Certification is preferred.
Experience developing labor estimates, project quotes, and installation schedules.
Previous customer-facing project management experience in an aviation environment.
Experience working with corporate aircraft such as Gulfstream, Challenger, Bombardier, and similar platforms.
Knowledge of tooling requirements and best practices for avionics installation and maintenance.
Experience supporting audits and compliance activities in a Part 145 environment.
Ability to collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve technical issues.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and grow a high-performing avionics team.

Work Environment
The role operates within a corporate aviation MRO / Part 145 repair station setting, combining office-based planning with on-floor technical oversight. Approximately 75% of the time is spent behind a desk focusing on project planning, documentation review, quoting, scheduling, and coordination with leadership and customers. The remaining 25% is spent on the hangar floor working directly with avionics technicians, aircraft, tooling, and equipment. The environment emphasizes safety, regulatory compliance, and quality, with close interaction between production, engineering, and avionics teams. Work involves exposure to active hangar operations, aircraft systems, and standard aviation maintenance conditions.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $150000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
