As the Critical Facilities Technician - Data Center you will support the operation and maintenance of mission-critical infrastructure within a data center environment. You will assist in managing building systems including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and life safety, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and uptime. You will perform preventative and emergency maintenance, coordinate with vendors and contractors, and support 24/7 on-call operations. You will also contribute to procedural development, safety compliance, and long-term infrastructure planning.
Responsibilities:
Assist with the operation, inspection, maintenance, and monitoring of mission critical equipment and building systems within the data center environment.
Support preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities for electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, power, and life safety systems.
Perform routine inspections, scheduled maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of facility equipment and systems.
Assist with equipment testing and preventative maintenance activities, including filter changes, generator testing, and UPS/ATS/STS transfer operations.
Monitor building systems and report equipment issues, discrepancies, trends, and abnormal conditions to facility management and operations teams.
Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to support maintenance activities, equipment installations, and service delivery.
Assist with maintaining maintenance schedules, inventory of critical spare parts, and facility documentation.
Support operational procedures and programs including change control, safety compliance, work rules, and standard operating procedures.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and operational documentation in company systems.
Support data center uptime, reliability, and operational efficiency initiatives.
Provide on-call support and respond to facility emergencies as required in a 24x7 operational environment.
Qualifications:
High School Degree or Equivalent required
Licenses/Certificates/Designations: Technical Certification / License in Mechanical, HVAC or Electrical Field, military training experience, or other related field preferred
3+ years of experience as a Critical Facilities/Maintenance Technician in data center, mission critical environment, or other relevant experience
Knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems necessary, construction / project planning, building controls, fire systems, and security systems
Knowledge of building automation systems
Knowledge of CMMS, ticketing, work order systems preferred.
Technically proficient in planning and scheduling, and exhibit excellent organizational skills preferred
Strong communication skills, the ability to lead coordination meetings and actively facilitate progress in order to achieve scheduled goals preferred
Ability to work cooperatively with internal administration groups, and effectively negotiate with customers and contractors to reach mutually acceptable terms and conditions preferred
Proficiency with MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project. Knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred
Working Environment: Data Center - The data center work environment is a highly secure, physically demanding, and structured operation, characterized by its loud, controlled temperature conditions and 24/7/365 uptime. The environment demands a high attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills to manage and troubleshoot critical equipment during regular operation and in emergency situations. Lifting up to 50 lbs, regular bending, stooping, climbing and long periods of walking / standing will be required.
Physical Expectations:
Work is physically strenuous and workers are required to lift heavy packages up to 50 pounds.
Work may require excessive bending or stooping.
Employee required to walk long distances repeatedly throughout the day.
Employee required to use hand tools.
