Job Description
This full-time HVAC Service Manager / HVAC/R Field Supervisor role is a hands-on leadership position within a mobile technical services team. You will oversee maintenance operations across multiple commercial and industrial buildings, combining deep technical HVAC/R expertise with field supervision, technician development, and quality assurance. You support operations leadership by ensuring optimal facility performance, regulatory compliance, and consistent service delivery while mentoring and guiding a team of technicians.
Responsibilities
Provide expert technical guidance and advanced troubleshooting support for HVAC/R systems, including rack refrigeration, air conditioning, boilers, and related mechanical and electrical equipment.
Direct and supervise field service technicians performing HVAC/R maintenance, repair, and service activities across assigned facilities.
Train and onboard new technicians in maintenance procedures, safety practices, and company protocols to ensure consistent quality and compliance.
Conduct weekly on-site quality assurance inspections at maintained facilities, documenting findings and ensuring corrective actions are completed.
Manage refrigerant inventory and usage in accordance with regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate records and ensuring EPA compliance.
Prepare detailed technical evaluations and deficiency reports on existing mechanical and HVAC/R systems to support planning and improvements.
Respond to emergency service situations, assess system issues, and implement appropriate technical solutions in a timely and safe manner.
Support operations management by providing performance metrics, technical reporting, and field insights to improve service delivery and efficiency.
Collaborate with internal teams and clients, communicating clearly about system status, maintenance needs, and recommended repairs or upgrades.
Contribute to the implementation and optimization of preventive maintenance programs for HVAC/R and building systems.
Participate in or support capital project planning and implementation related to HVAC/R and mechanical systems when needed.
Essential Skills
At least 6 years of technical and supervisory experience in building engineering, including oversight of field technicians or maintenance teams.
Strong hands-on background in HVAC/R systems, with specific experience in rack refrigeration and related mechanical systems.
Proficient troubleshooting skills for HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, and boiler systems in commercial or industrial environments.
Demonstrated experience in field service, including repair, maintenance, and service of HVAC/R and refrigeration equipment.
Proven team supervision capabilities, including training, mentoring, and performance guidance for technical staff.
EPA Universal Certification (Section 608) or equivalent EPA 608 certification for handling refrigerants.
Valid driver's license to travel between multiple serviced properties.
Solid communication skills to interact effectively with both technical teams and clients, including clear reporting and status updates.
Ability to manage refrigerant usage and documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
Competence in implementing and following preventive maintenance procedures for HVAC/R systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience implementing and managing preventive maintenance programs for commercial building HVAC and mechanical systems.
background in commercial building operations, including familiarity with building systems and facility maintenance processes.
Knowledge of energy efficiency best practices for HVAC systems and the ability to identify opportunities for performance optimization.
Experience supporting or participating in capital project planning and implementation related to HVAC/R or mechanical infrastructure.
Ability to prepare clear technical evaluations, deficiency reports, and performance metrics for management review.
Comfort working in both field and office settings, adapting to changing priorities and service demands.

Work Environment
The role operates primarily on first shift, Monday through Friday, generally between 7:00/8:00 a.m. and 4:00/5:00 p.m., supporting a predictable daytime schedule. You will service multiple properties throughout the Columbus area, including retail locations and other industrial buildings, which requires regular travel between sites. Work is performed in a mix of environments: on-site in mechanical rooms, equipment areas, and building interiors, as well as occasionally in an office setting for reporting, planning, and coordination. You will work with a range of HVAC/R technologies, including refrigeration equipment, air conditioning systems, boilers, and associated electrical and mechanical components, within a mobile technical services team focused on safe, efficient, and compliant operations.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
