Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated OSP (Outside Plant) Inspector to join our team committed to improving rural broadband access. The role involves overseeing Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) construction activities, ensuring they are completed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with quality standards and customer specifications. You will serve as the field representative, providing daily oversight of contractors during aerial, underground, and buried fiber optic construction.
Responsibilities
Inspect FTTH construction activities, including aerial, underground, directional boring, trenching, plowing, and fiber placement.
Monitor contractor performance to ensure adherence to project specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards.
Review engineering drawings, permits, and construction packages prior to work beg.
Verify proper installation of fiber optic facilities, handholes, pedestals, conduit systems, vaults, and aerial attachments.
Conduct field audits and quality inspections throughout the construction process.
Ensure restoration of work areas complies with local municipality and customer requirements.
Document daily construction activity, production quantities, workforce counts, and project progress.
Identify deficiencies, safety concerns, and non-compliant work; communicate corrective actions to contractors.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, utility companies, municipal agencies, and permitting authorities.
Review and verify contractor invoices, production reports, and as-built documentation.
Maintain detailed photo documentation and inspection records.
Attend contractor meetings and provide status updates to project stakeholders.
Support project closeout activities and final acceptance inspections.
Essential Skills
2+ years of experience inspecting telecommunications, utility, or fiber optic construction projects.
Knowledge of FTTH (fiber to the home) network construction methods and outside plant infrastructure.
Understanding of aerial and underground fiber deployment practices.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, utility maps, and construction plans.
Experience working with construction contractors and utility customers.
Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the project territory.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with large-scale FTTH deployment programs.
Knowledge of NESC standards and utility construction practices.
Familiarity with fiber optic cable installation, splicing, and testing.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Utility or telecommunications industry experience.
Experience using GIS, ArcGIS, Smallworld, Katapult, IQGeo, or similar mapping platforms.
Experience using construction management and reporting tools.
Work Environment
The position requires working 40 hours per week in various field locations, with no overtime allowed. Candidates must live within 60 minutes of specified work sites and will receive mileage reimbursement when traveling. Personal protective equipment such as steel-toed shoes, eye protection, and a safety vest are mandatory. The role includes seven holidays and two weeks of PTO. Work will primarily be conducted in rural areas across North Mississippi, South Mississippi, South Alabama, North Alabama, and North Georgia.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
