Telecommunications Field Technician (Central Office / DC Power)
Location: Chicago, IL
Pay: $30-32/hr DOE + Overtime
Travel: Primarily local Chicago work with occasional Midwest travel
Schedule: Full-Time | Day & Maintenance Window Work
About the Role
We are seeking experienced Telecommunications Field Technicians with a strong Central Office (CO) background to support telecom network decommissioning, fiber grooming, equipment removals, and future installation projects throughout the Midwest. This is not a data center rack-and-stack position. We are looking for technicians who understand carrier-class telecom networks and can work independently in Central Office environments. What You'll Do
- Perform telecom equipment decommissioning and removals
- Complete fiber grooming and circuit migration activities
- Disconnect and remove telecom equipment and associated cabling
- Work with DC power systems and equipment shutdown procedures
- Conduct site audits and inventory documentation
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and site documentation
- Test fiber circuits using telecom test equipment
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and network operations teams

What We're Looking For
Required
- 5+ years of telecommunications field experience
- Central Office (CO) Technician or Central Office Installation experience
- Fiber optic network experience
- DC Power / -48V power experience
- Experience working in live telecom environments
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to travel occasionally throughout the Midwest
- Strong attendance and professionalism
Strongly Preferred
- Lumen, CenturyLink, AT&T, Verizon, Frontier, Windstream, Zayo, or similar carrier experience
- DWDM, SONET, transport network experience
- Equipment installation and turn-up experience
- Router and switch familiarity
- Site exit and network decommissioning experience

- Structured cabling
- Enterprise IT support
- Rack-and-stack only
- Data center-only operations
Preference is given to technicians with carrier Central Office experience over traditional data center experience.
Schedule & Travel
- Primarily based in the Chicago market
- Occasional travel throughout the Midwest
- Some overnight travel may be required
- Occasional maintenance window work (midnight to 6:00 AM)
