Job Title: Transport Refrigeration Mechanic Job Description
This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, installing, and maintaining transport temperature control equipment and auxiliary power units with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and adherence to manufacturer standards. You will work primarily on Thermo King and Carrier mobile equipment, ensuring reliable performance of transport refrigeration systems while maintaining accurate documentation and upholding dealership procedures.
Responsibilities
Proactively conduct diagnostic procedures on transport temperature control equipment and identify issues accurately and efficiently.
Perform high-quality repairs on transport refrigeration systems, ensuring reliable operation and adherence to manufacturer specifications.
Carry out prescribed, routine maintenance procedures on transport temperature control equipment in a timely and efficient manner.
Install transport temperature control equipment in accordance with Thermo King specifications and standards.
Perform installation, repair, and service of Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) with a focus on quality and reliability.
Maintain current knowledge of Thermo King new product developments, service bulletins, and campaigns, and apply this knowledge in daily work.
Adhere to all dealer standards, manufacturer standards, and established work procedures at all times.
Maintain CERTI-TECH certification level and participate in required training in accordance with national Thermo King standards.
Protect dealership and manufacturer confidentiality in all aspects of work.
Maintain good housekeeping practices and keep the work area clean and organized.
Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate safety equipment while performing work.
Complete all required paperwork accurately and promptly to support dealership and Thermo King documentation requirements.
Travel as needed for training or to support customer needs, when required.
Work overtime as needed to meet operational and customer demands.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required to support the service department.
Essential Skills
At least 5 years of experience working with Thermo King or Carrier mobile equipment, including transport refrigeration systems and temperature control equipment.
Hands-on experience with Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) and transport cooling compressors.
Basic understanding of mechanical, transport refrigeration, and electrical systems, with willingness to train and expand knowledge.
Experience in one or more related areas such as diesel engines, heavy equipment repair, light-duty mechanics, or heavy wheel mechanics.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with related vocational or technical training preferred.
Basic computer skills and the ability to use computer-based diagnostic and documentation systems.
Valid driver's license and ability to meet insurability standards for operating dealer vehicles.
Ability to obtain a DOT medical card if required for driving certain trucks.
Valid EPA 608 Type II or 609 certification preferred for handling refrigerants.
Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment screening requirements.
Capability to work overtime and adjust to varying schedules as required.
Ability to travel for training or to meet customer needs when necessary.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Prior experience working specifically with Thermo King transport refrigeration systems is highly beneficial.
Familiarity with Carrier transport refrigeration equipment is an advantage.
CERTI-TECH certification or the ability to obtain and maintain this certification in line with Thermo King national standards.
Related vocational or technical training in diesel technology, refrigeration, HVAC, or automotive/mechanical fields.
Ownership of a complete set of quality hand tools is preferred and supports efficiency in daily tasks.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
Ability to follow detailed technical instructions, service bulletins, and manufacturer specifications.
Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records, documentation, and housekeeping standards.
Good communication skills to interact with team members, supervisors, and customers as needed.
Commitment to continuous learning, including staying current with new product developments and service campaigns.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tolleson, AZ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $34.00/hr.
