Shop Operations Manager
Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Shop Operations Manager to oversee all maintenance, repair, and fleet support activities at a service facility located near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. This role is responsible for leading a small team of technicians who maintain specialized commercial vehicles equipped with hydraulic lift systems that support airport catering and logistics operations.
The ideal candidate combines strong leadership skills with a solid maintenance background and a proven ability to manage workflows, control costs, maintain safety compliance, and deliver excellent service to internal and external customers.
Primary Responsibilities
Direct the day-to-day activities of a team of technicians, ensuring maintenance and repair work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards.
Coordinate shop operations, assigning priorities and balancing workloads to maximize fleet availability and productivity.
Monitor vehicle repair status, preventive maintenance schedules, breakdown response, and equipment readiness.
Maintain an organized, professional, and compliant workshop environment, including adjacent storage and equipment areas.
Review completed repair orders and work documentation for accuracy, ensuring labor hours, parts usage, and service details are properly recorded.
Oversee shop budgets and operational spending while supporting overall financial performance goals.
Prepare and communicate operational updates, maintenance metrics, and performance reports to senior leadership.
Ensure proper approvals are obtained before repairs begin and manage authorization processes for customer-billable work and warranty claims.
Coordinate facility improvement projects, equipment installations, vendor services, and contractor activities as needed.
Track key performance indicators and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and service quality.
Control maintenance expenses by evaluating labor utilization, overtime, outside service providers, and replacement parts costs.
Develop technician schedules and staffing plans to meet operational requirements.
Coach employees, provide performance feedback, and support professional development initiatives.
Address attendance concerns, workplace issues, and employee relations matters in accordance with company policies.
Participate in recruiting, onboarding, and training new team members.
Serve as the primary point of contact for customers and business partners regarding maintenance activities and service expectations.
Champion workplace safety by enforcing company policies, OSHA requirements, and best practices throughout the facility.
Ensure proper use of PPE, safety equipment, and maintenance procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience supervising, leading, or managing maintenance, repair, fleet, or technical service teams.
Strong understanding of shop operations, preventive maintenance programs, repair processes, and workplace safety requirements.
Experience managing employee performance, productivity, and customer-focused service delivery.
Ability to analyze operational data and prepare reports, recommendations, and business updates.
Experience making cost-effective decisions related to repairs, maintenance planning, equipment purchases, and resource allocation.
Knowledge of mechanical systems, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair procedures.
Familiarity with diesel-powered vehicles, commercial trucks, fleet equipment, or industrial machinery.
Proficiency maintaining repair documentation, maintenance records, and work order systems.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while effectively managing multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with hydraulic systems, hydraulic lifts, cylinders, pumps, and related equipment.
Prior experience managing fleet maintenance operations for transportation, logistics, aviation support, or industrial service organizations.
Knowledge of ground support equipment (GSE), material handling equipment, or specialty commercial vehicles.
Familiarity with budgeting, P&L management, and operational performance metrics.
Experience implementing process improvements and workflow optimization initiatives.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $115000.00/yr.
