Job Title: Workshop Manager
Job Description
The Workshop Manager leads the workshop team to deliver safe, efficient, and high‑quality maintenance operations. This role manages day‑to‑day workshop performance, ensures compliance with quality and safety standards, and maintains excellent customer service. The Workshop Manager oversees local projects, drives continuous improvement, and collaborates closely with cross‑functional teams such as HR, Finance, and Commercial to achieve operational, financial, and customer objectives. The position carries full ownership of the site's financial performance, including profit and loss accountability, and serves as the primary on‑site leader for operational excellence and resource efficiency.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage the workshop team to deliver safe, efficient, and high‑quality maintenance operations.
Oversee daily workflow, including vehicle turnaround times, productivity, repairs, breakdowns, and new work requirements.
Manage the workshop floor and associated yard, ensuring organization, cleanliness, and adherence to operational standards.
Conduct daily reviews of completed work to ensure accurate recording of parts, labor, and work descriptions.
Maintain accountability for the site's financial performance, including full ownership of the P&L, cost control, and alignment with budget targets.
Provide regular performance and operational updates to the Operations Director.
Oversee daily servicing, repairs, maintenance planning, inspections, cleaning, and auditing to meet company standards.
Lead local projects from planning through completion, coordinating with landlords, vendors, and internal teams.
Obtain required customer approvals before work begins and manage the chargeable defect authorization process, including warranty repairs.
Manage facility upgrades, infrastructure improvements, and equipment installations while ensuring compliance with operational, safety, and timeline requirements.
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to minimize operational disruption during projects and upgrades.
Monitor and ensure adherence to KPIs, budgets, and service standards.
Control costs by challenging and pre‑authorizing subcontractor, parts, and overtime expenses.
Ensure all defects are repaired effectively and that maintenance records are maintained accurately and completely.
Ensure safe work systems and practices are followed and that toolbox talks are delivered on time.
Manage shift patterns, scheduling, and staff availability to meet operational needs.
Take accountability for overall workshop productivity by effectively managing technician workload, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring timely completion of maintenance and repair activities.
Address performance issues through coaching, development, or formal disciplinary processes as required.
Manage absence, sickness, and lateness in line with company policy, including conducting return‑to‑work interviews.
Recruit, onboard, and induct new staff, while motivating and developing team members for optimal performance.
Provide initial technical training and ongoing skills development to technicians, including identifying and addressing training gaps and aligning with industry trends such as electrical training for EV GSE or trucks.
Partner with HR to resolve employee relations matters and ensure compliance with company policies and employment law.
Handle confidential information appropriately and maintain professional standards in all people management activities.
Use ERP systems and office software to manage workshop operations, reporting, and administrative tasks.
Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, staff, and customers to align expectations and ensure high levels of service.
Essential Skills
At least 5 years of hands‑on diesel maintenance experience.
3-5 years of leadership or management experience in a workshop, shop, or similar operational environment.
Proven experience in operational environments, preferably within airports, airlines, ground handlers, or airport service provider segments.
Strong workshop and shop management skills, including supervision of technicians and coordination of maintenance activities.
Demonstrated experience in diesel trucks, diesel engine repair, and diesel maintenance.
Experience in GSE (Ground Support Equipment) management or similar equipment operations.
Excellent people management skills with the ability to lead, coach, and develop a diverse team.
Experience using ERP systems; familiarity with SAP is a plus.
Strong analytical skills with high numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
Result‑driven and proactive approach with a dynamic and hands‑on working style.
Ability to work independently and take ownership of operational and financial outcomes.
Excellent MS Office skills, particularly in Excel and Word.
Good oral and written communication skills in English.
Ability to lead a team with clear vision and perspective and to drive continuous improvement.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree is preferred.
Experience as a GSE Manager, Diesel Manager, or similar leadership role in maintenance operations.
Experience working with airport‑related operations, airlines, or ground service providers.
Knowledge of warranty processes and chargeable defect authorization procedures.
Experience managing facility upgrades, infrastructure improvements, and equipment installations.
Comfort working with KPIs, budgets, and service standards in a performance‑driven environment.
Additional language skills beyond English are an advantage.
Ability to deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings effectively.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

Work Environment
This is a fully on‑site role based at an assigned workshop, with regular movement between the workshop, yard, airside areas, and an office environment. The position involves active supervision of operations, frequent equipment inspections, and regular interaction with staff and customers, alongside office‑based administrative work using a computer, ERP systems, and standard office software. The role requires obtaining and maintaining an active airport‑issued airside badge. Physical requirements include frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching, as well as occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Good vision and hearing are essential to perform the job safely and effectively. The work environment includes exposure to noise, varying weather conditions, and typical industrial hazards associated with workshop and airside operations. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided and must be used in line with safety policies.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $115000.00/yr.
They offer three different medical plans with UHC (1 HSA plan and two traditional plans), there is cost sharing as well, for Employee Only TCR covers 80% of the monthly premium, for EE+ 1 or EE + Family TCR covers 65%.
