The Maintenance & Refrigeration Manager is responsible for employee and food safety, operational performance, maintenance processes, refrigeration systems, utilities operations, and team development of a 24/7 food manufacturing facility. The position is accountable for leading and directing all reliability and maintenance activities, utilities operation, ammonia refrigeration systems, and execution of capital plans as necessary. The Maintenance & Refrigeration Manager will ensure successful completion of daily maintenance work as scheduled by the planning team and its execution by partnering with operational and support team members. This role must be available to work scheduled work times, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to
Adhere to plant safety, food safety, sanitation standards, and follow all GMP guidelines
Assist in establishing, developing, and implementing key performance indicators to meet/exceed department and plant objectives
Drive continuous improvement initiatives by partnering with facility and home office leadership to improve equipment uptime and OEE while reducing annual cost per asset replacement value
Utilize internal plant maintenance teams and corporate reliability resources to define lubrication, predictive, preventive, and precision maintenance strategies
Utilize CMMS to support maintenance functionality, including reviewing and prioritizing work requests, work orders, and maintenance results
Responsible for the safety, operation, reliability, and regulatory compliance of all ammonia refrigeration systems and associated utility equipment
Maintain relevant knowledge of EHS issues and ensure adherence to EHS policies and procedures
Develop safe work procedures and ensure adherence to procedures and PPE requirements
Create and foster team environments that support employee development and performance management
Participate in daily walkthroughs and provide pointed feedback while maintaining a floor presence
Encourage reporting of work-related injuries and incidents, conduct investigations, and implement corrective actions
Partner with Quality and Production to resolve production-related and vendor-related issues
Participate in interviewing, recruiting, and selection of salaried and hourly team members
Support recruiting events and talent pipeline efforts in partnership with Talent Acquisition
Responsible for implementation and oversight of all programs, SOPs, and GMPs related to the food safety management system
Lead all PSM elements including Mechanical Integrity, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), Incident Investigations, Operating Procedures, and Employee Training
Responsible for the safety, operation, and regulatory compliance of ammonia refrigeration systems
Required Skills and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, or applicable technical knowledge or Degree/Certification from Trade School
Minimum 5 years' experience of proven leadership or supervisory experience in industrial operations, maintenance, or utilities operations
3+ years working with and participating in LEAN manufacturing principles and activities
Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team environment and build positive working relationships
Ability to lead department team members to achieve quality, delivery, and cost objectives
Ability to balance maintenance initiatives that align with plant business strategies
Proven analytical, planning, problem-solving, and project management skills
Experience installing, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical equipment
480V 3-phase knowledge
Read and decipher mechanical drawings, schematics, and piping diagrams
Experience serving as the PSM leader or program owner for an ammonia refrigeration facility
Knowledge of OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119), EPA RMP regulations, IIAR standards, and applicable building and fire codes
Demonstrated experience managing capital projects exceeding $500,000
Proven leadership experience managing maintenance, utilities, and refrigeration teams in a 24/7 manufacturing environment
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience with Electrical troubleshooting
Knowledge and practice of NFPA 70E
Experience or knowledge of personal/process control computers, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and networking devices
Experience with Allen Bradley
CIRO, RETA, CARO, or equivalent industrial refrigeration certifications
Physical Requirements
