Superintendent - Hyperscale Data Center ConstructionAbout the Role
We are seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead field operations on a large-scale hyperscale data center campus. This role is responsible for managing all on-site construction activities across multiple buildings and infrastructure packages, ensuring safe, high-quality, and on-schedule delivery of mission-critical facilities.
The project consists of a multi-phase, greenfield campus build including data halls, central utility plants (CUP), electrical yards, substations, and extensive site infrastructure. This is a high-profile, fast-paced environment requiring strict adherence to schedule, quality, and safety standards typical of Tier III / Tier IV data center construction.
Project Overview (Hyperscale Data Center - North Dakota Region)
Large-scale campus development (multi-building, phased delivery)
Data halls with high-density compute capacity
Central Utility Plant (CUP) supporting chilled water systems
Medium- and high-voltage electrical distribution (substations, switchgear yards)
Backup power systems including generators, fuel systems, and UPS infrastructure
Underground utilities, duct banks, fiber pathways, and storm systems
Structural steel or precast building systems with complex enclosure assemblies
Redundant mechanical and electrical systems (N+1 / 2N configurations)
Extreme weather considerations (cold climate construction, winterization planning)
Aggressive commissioning and turnover schedules tied to client capacity demands
Key Responsibilities
Lead all on-site construction activities across civil, structural, MEP, electrical, enclosure, and site infrastructure scopes
Manage field operations from mobilization through commissioning and final turnover across multiple project phases
Coordinate subcontractors and trades across complex work zones, including:
Earthwork and underground utilities
Structural steel / precast erection
Mechanical systems (chilled water, CRAH/CRAC, piping)
Electrical systems (MV/LV distribution, switchgear, generators, UPS)
Drive execution of critical path activities including:
Equipment setting (generators, chillers, switchgear)
Cable pulling and termination
Mechanical piping installation and pressure testing
Oversee sequencing, logistics, crane operations, and material flow across large jobsite footprints
Conduct daily huddles, pull planning sessions, and 3-6 week lookahead scheduling
Enforce strict safety protocols aligned with high-risk activities (energized work, heavy lifts, confined spaces)
Review construction documents, BIM models, shop drawings, and submittals for constructability and coordination
Identify and resolve field conflicts proactively to maintain schedule and avoid rework
Partner closely with project management, commissioning teams, QA/QC, and client representatives
Support commissioning activities including system turnover packages, pre-functional checklists, and integrated systems testing (IST)
Drive quality control, punch list completion, and closeout documentation
QualificationsRequired
5-10+ years of experience in commercial, industrial, or mission-critical construction
Proven experience as a Superintendent or lead field supervisor on large-scale projects
Strong understanding of:
Electrical infrastructure (medium/high voltage, substations, switchgear)
Mechanical systems (chilled water plants, distribution piping, cooling systems)
Structural sequencing and building envelope systems
Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors across complex, fast-track schedules
Ability to manage field operations independently in a high-demand environment
OSHA 30 Certification
High school diploma or GED
Preferred Experience
Data center, semiconductor, or other mission-critical facility construction
Experience with commissioning processes and turnover requirements
Familiarity with redundancy systems (N+1, 2N architectures)
Cold-weather construction planning and execution
Experience with BIM/VDC coordination and digital construction tools
Ideal Candidate Traits
Strong, decisive field leader who can manage high-pressure schedules
Excellent communicator with the ability to align multiple trades and stakeholders
Highly organized with strong attention to sequencing, logistics, and detail
Proactive problem-solver who anticipates and mitigates risks early
Safety-first mindset with a commitment to zero incidents
