Location: Pacific Northwest Coastal Area (Flexible Location / Heavy Travel Required)
At North Sky Communications, LLC, as a Traveling HDD Drill Mechanic, you’ll perform critical field maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on our specialized horizontal directional drilling (HDD) rigs, fleet vehicles, and heavy construction equipment. Because this role requires heavy travel across our regional job sites, candidates can be based anywhere within the Pacific Northwest coastal area. You’ll ensure our specialized equipment operates safely and efficiently, directly keeping our field crews moving and our networks growing.
Field Maintenance: Travel heavily across the Pacific Northwest to perform on-site diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on specialized HDD drill rigs and support equipment.
Determine repair or maintenance plans for vehicles and equipment based on cost/benefit analysis.
Inspect and provide strategic recommendations for proactive, preventative field maintenance.
Follow strict work procedures for the repair and maintenance of specialized telecom construction equipment.
Dismantle, repair, and reassemble vehicles, trailers, and heavy equipment such as HDD drills, trackhoes, backhoes, and other specialized machinery.
Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, hydraulic system flushes, brake inspections, and tire rotations.
Ensure company service vehicles are clean, fueled, and stocked with necessary parts at all times.
Operate and test vehicles and heavy machinery to ensure proper functioning before handing them back to field crews.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe field workspace.
Other duties as assigned.
To be 18 years of age or older.
Authorization to work in the United States for this company.
High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience.
Travel Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel heavily throughout the Pacific Northwest coastal region. (from the top of WA to CA and over to ID and NV)
Valid state driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record.
Tools: Mechanics are expected to provide their own standard tools. The company will supply large-diameter and specialty tools as needed.
Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience as a heavy equipment or fleet mechanic, with a preferred focus on Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) rigs or commercial construction machinery.
Strong working knowledge of complex hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
Proficient in using heavy equipment diagnostic tools and software.
The wage range for Traveling HDD Drill Mechanic is $28.00 - $40.00.
