Job Title: Mechatronics & Robotics Apprentice (MRA)
Job Description
The Mechatronics & Robotics Apprentice (MRA) installs, maintains, and repairs automated material handling and robotic equipment in a large, fast-paced distribution environment. This role focuses on preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting complex electrical and mechanical systems, and ensuring high equipment uptime through accurate documentation and effective use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). The technician works hands-on with conveyors, controls, and robotics while supporting continuous improvement and safety standards.
Responsibilities
Install, inspect, repair, and maintain material handling equipment, including automated conveyor systems and related controls.
Perform routine preventive and predictive maintenance on material handling equipment, robotics, and associated systems, following established procedures and documentation requirements.
Complete preventive maintenance routines, including PM checklists and documentation, and ensure all work is accurately recorded.
Perform battery changes and conduct preventive maintenance on batteries to support uninterrupted operation of equipment.
Enter downtime data into daily logs and complete preventive maintenance sheets to support performance tracking and reliability analysis.
Manage work orders within a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including creating, updating, and closing work orders in a timely manner.
Troubleshoot and identify problems with electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems on material handling and robotic equipment.
Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose issues and complete repairs.
Troubleshoot and repair motors, conveyor systems, and other complex industrial equipment components.
Track, store, and organize department inventory, including spare parts and maintenance supplies, to ensure availability for repairs and preventive maintenance.
Follow and demonstrate safety standards and procedures in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidelines and facility safety policies.
Troubleshoot basic input and output functions of building operations and control systems.
Collaborate with team members and leadership to support continuous improvement initiatives in maintenance practices and equipment reliability.
Use Microsoft Office applications to complete reports, update logs, and communicate maintenance activities.
Support robotic operation and maintenance activities, including basic troubleshooting and adjustments as experience grows.
Essential Skills
At least 2+ years of experience conducting quality predictive and preventive maintenance procedures.
2+ years of experience repairing material handling equipment (MHE) or automated conveyor systems and controls.
2+ years of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
2+ years of knowledge and hands-on experience with electrical and electronic principles.
2+ years of experience following and demonstrating safety standards in an industrial or distribution environment.
1+ year of experience troubleshooting and diagnosing MHE systems.
1+ year of experience using Microsoft Office products and applications.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including basic components and motors.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems, including conveyor and material handling components.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair pneumatic systems.
Experience performing preventive maintenance on conveyors, motors, and related industrial equipment.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or industrial environments performing maintenance on complex systems and industrial equipment.
Hands-on experience running diagnostics, inspections, troubleshooting, repairing equipment, and creating work orders.
Experience working with conveyors and other material handling equipment (MHE), including controls and robotics.
Experience with automated conveyor systems and high-speed automation equipment.
Ability to read and work from hydraulic and electrical schematics.
Experience with hydraulics and related industrial systems.
Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders and maintenance history.
Continuous improvement mindset with a willingness to identify and implement process improvements.
Willingness to learn and grow within a reliability and maintenance engineering environment.
Experience with MHE safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and facility safety guidelines.
Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in mechanical or electrical fields (preferred).
2+ years of apprenticeship or equivalent experience in the mechanical or electrical field (preferred).
2+ years of experience working with PLC-based control systems (preferred).
Experience with robotic operation and maintenance (preferred).

Work Environment
The role is based in a large, high-speed distribution facility that relies heavily on automation and robotic components. Technicians work around conveyors, material handling equipment, and advanced control systems in a fast-paced, performance-driven setting where productivity and reliability are tracked through data and metrics rather than close micromanagement. The position is physically active and requires comfort with walking significant distances throughout the shift, often reaching approximately 10,000 steps per day, and safely lifting up to 49 pounds at a time. All candidates must be open to working any 10-hour shift, as positions are available across multiple shifts and schedules. The environment is industrial, with standard safety practices, PPE, and attire appropriate for working around machinery and automated systems.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.84 - $26.84/hr.
