Fiber Splicer
Location: Raleigh, NC
Pay Range: $25-$35/hr (based on experience)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Fiber Splicer with a minimum of 3 years of hands‑on fiber optic experience to support commercial, enterprise, and telecom projects in the Raleigh, NC area. This role is responsible for fiber splicing, installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting, with a strong focus on single‑mode fiber in both inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) environments.
The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, technically proficient, and capable of independently completing fiber splicing work accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform fusion and mechanical splicing on single‑mode fiber optic cables
Install, terminate, test, and splice fiber in telecom rooms, data centers, and OSP environments
Complete building entrance, maintenance hole, direct‑buried, and enclosure splices
Break out and prep OSP fiber cables for splicing and termination
Conduct fiber testing using OTDR and Fluke test equipment
Troubleshoot fiber faults end‑to‑end and across network‑wide paths
Interpret test results and correct performance issues
Label fiber and enclosures according to company and industry standards
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times
Required Technical Skills & ExperienceFiber Splicing & Installation
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency with:
Fusion splicing of all types of single‑mode fiber
Mechanical splicing of all types of fiber cable
Splicing in:
Building entrances
Maintenance spaces
Direct‑buried environments
Fiber Cabling & Termination
Experience with installation and termination of:
Single‑mode fiber connectors:
LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA
MPO / MTP
Termination of:
Simplex and duplex fiber jumpers
OSP single‑mode fiber (single strand, no multimode)
Outdoor single‑mode fiber cable
Experience working with splice matrices and fiber enclosures
Familiarity with OSP fiber manufacturers such as Corning and CommScope
Testing & Troubleshooting
Experience testing fiber using:
OTDR
Fluke DTX 1800 or similar
Ability to:
Identify faults and loss points
Troubleshoot issues end‑to‑end
Verify performance meets specifications
Experience & Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of hands‑on fiber optic experience
Experience with single‑mode fiber in commercial, enterprise, or telecom environments
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Reliable transportation
Willingness to work in both indoor and outdoor field environments

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
