Job Title: Cable Technician
Job Description
The Cable Technician installs, tests, and labels CAT5/6 plenum and non-plenum cable, as well as fiber optic cable, in new and existing buildings across the state of Montana. This role builds and organizes communication closets, assembles wall terminals, and ensures all connections function correctly by following schematics and blueprints. The position is hands-on, physically active, and based primarily on construction sites.
Responsibilities
Install CAT5 and CAT6 plenum and non-plenum cable, as well as fiber optic cable, throughout new and existing buildings.
Build and organize communication closets using a variety of hand tools.
Label all installed cables clearly and accurately for future identification and maintenance.
Read and interpret schematics and blueprints to plan and execute cable installation.
Assemble wall terminals for all installed wires to meet project specifications.
Test all terminals and connections to verify proper operation and signal integrity.
Troubleshoot wiring and connection issues and make necessary repairs or adjustments.
Work with electrical boxes, conduit, and related components in an industrial or construction environment.
Lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds as needed.
Travel throughout the state of Montana to various job sites as required.
Essential Skills
At least 1 year of experience in wiring and installation of cables, preferably in a new construction environment.
Hands-on experience with cable installation, including CAT5/6 and fiber optic cabling.
Ability to read and understand schematics and blueprints for installation work.
Proficiency in using hand tools to build communication closets and assemble wall terminals.
Knowledge of wiring practices, electrical boxes, and basic electrical concepts.
Troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve cable and connectivity issues.
Capability to work safely and effectively on construction sites.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks that require standing, bending, and reaching.
Willingness and ability to travel across the state of Montana to different job locations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working on industrial or commercial construction projects.
Familiarity with running and installing conduit for cabling.
Strong attention to detail for accurate cable labeling and documentation.
Organizational skills to maintain neat and functional communication closets.
Ability to work independently and as part of a site-based installation team.

Work Environment
This role is fully onsite at various framed-in construction sites across the state. You will work in active building environments where structures are under construction, using hand tools and working with cabling, electrical boxes, and conduit. The work involves moving around job sites, climbing, bending, and lifting materials up to 50 pounds. Hours and conditions may vary by project, and travel between different locations within Montana is a regular part of the job.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Billings, MT.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
