The Communications Technician I is an entry-level role for individuals looking to begin a career in structured cabling and low-voltage systems. This position supports installation, termination, and basic construction tasks while learning industry standards and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Install work area outlets (floor monuments, surface-mount boxes, wall outlets)
Pull, route, and support cabling using industry methods (J-hooks, cable tray, D-rings, etc.)
Prepare and dress cables; determine slack and label correctly
Build and assist with IDF/MDF closets (racks, patch panels, backboards, hardware)
Terminate low-voltage copper and basic fiber connections
Perform fire-stopping and core penetration work
Follow all safety, quality, and installation standards
Complete required paperwork accurately and on time
Perform additional duties as assigned
Tools Used:
Basic hand tools including:
Screwdrivers, pliers, snips, cable stripper
Tape measure, level, flashlight
Hammer, wrench set, gloves
Required Skills:
Basic understanding of low-voltage or structured cabling
Familiarity with Cat5e/Cat6 cabling and color codes
Ability to perform punch-downs and basic terminations
Willingness to learn fiber, testing, and closet builds
Strong attention to detail and teamwork

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
