OSP Field Engineer (Northeastern Oregon)
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Field Engineer with strong Outside Plant (OSP) engineering experience and a background in OSP inspection throughout Northeastern Oregon. This role combines fieldwork, design responsibilities, coordination with local government entities, and cost estimating. The ideal candidate brings a practical understanding of telecom infrastructure, construction standards, and regulatory requirements, along with the ability to manage projects from initial survey through design and pricing. (Travel is required within the market)
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys to assess existing infrastructure, site conditions, and project feasibility
- Design OSP fiber networks, including aerial and underground layouts, in accordance with industry and municipal standards
- Interpret and develop construction drawings, permits, and right-of-way documentation
- Collaborate with city, county, and state officials to secure permits and ensure compliance with regulations
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, and construction timelines
- Leverage prior OSP inspection experience to ensure design quality, constructability, and adherence to standards
- Perform quality assurance reviews of fieldwork and contractor installations
- Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure project alignment and timely delivery
- Support project lifecycle activities, including planning, execution, and closeout documentation
- Identify and mitigate risks related to design, permitting, and construction
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in OSP engineering, design, or related field
- Prior experience as an OSP Inspector or in construction quality assurance
- Strong knowledge of fiber optic network design, construction practices, and industry standards
- Experience working with local municipalities, permitting agencies, and utility coordination
- Proficiency with design and mapping tools (e.G., AutoCAD, GIS platforms)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to field sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with both aerial and underground fiber deployments
- Familiarity with utility pole attachment processes and joint-use coordination
- Knowledge of traffic control plans and safety standards
- Background in cost estimation or project budgeting
- Experience supporting telecom or broadband expansion projects
Work Environment
- Combination of fieldwork and office-based design responsibilities
- Frequent travel to project sites and meetings with municipal agencies
- Exposure to outdoor conditions and active construction environments
