TEKsystems is seeking motivated Communications Technician I candidates to support a large‑scale new data center build in Aiken, SC. This is an excellent opportunity for technicians looking to gain hands‑on experience in a hyperscale data center environment while working alongside experienced teams on high‑volume cabling and fiber projects.
Technicians will support structured cabling, fiber installation, and testing while adhering to safety, quality, and documentation standards.
Top Skills (Required)
Experience assisting with high‑volume fiber work, including pulling and basic splicing
Exposure to hyperscale or large data center environments (Google, Meta, Microsoft, or similar preferred)
Experience using Fluke testers (fiber and/or copper)
Understanding of structured cabling best practices
Additional Skills (Nice to Have)
Cat5 / Cat6 cable installation and termination
Cable testing and basic troubleshooting
Rack assembly, rack install, and rack & stack
Ladder rack and cable tray installation
Basic fiber knowledge (single‑mode / multi‑mode)
Punch downs and crimping
CCTV or security cabling
Experience working from ladders or lifts
Familiarity with IDF/MDF rooms
Job Responsibilities
As a Communications Technician I, you will support experienced technicians and project leads with the following:
Assist with installation of structured cabling systems (CAT5e, CAT6, fiber)
Pull, route, label, and dress copper and fiber cables per standards
Support basic fiber splicing, testing, and termination activities
Assist with rack assembly, patch panel installation, and cable management
Perform cable testing and report results using Fluke test equipment
Follow labeling, quality, and safety standards at all times
Work in live and non‑live data center environments
Accurately complete required paperwork, tickets, and documentation
Maintain a clean and organized work area
Escalate issues or questions to leads or supervisors as needed

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr.
