Position Summary
The Level 1 Telecom Technician is an
entry-level role supporting Central Office (CO) decommissioning projects. The
technician assists senior technicians with equipment removal, cable mining,
material handling, and site preparation in live telecommunications
environments.
This role is designed to provide hands-on
training in telecom infrastructure, Central Office safety practices, and
decommissioning procedures. The technician will work under the supervision of
Level 2 and Lead Technicians while developing the skills required to progress
into more advanced technical roles.
Key Responsibilities
Project Support
Assist senior technicians with Central Office decommissioning activities
Support execution of approved Method of Procedures (MOPs) under supervision
Assist with equipment preparation, staging, and removal
Maintain site cleanliness and organization throughout the project
Equipment Removal Assistance
Assist with removal of telecom equipment including:
Bays
Cabinets
Relay racks
Transport equipment
Support palletizing and packaging of equipment for recycling or resale
Assist with dismantling overhead infrastructure such as ladder rack and cable trays
Cable Mining Support
Assist with removal of abandoned fiber, copper, and coax cabling
Support circuit tracing and cable identification under supervision
Maintain labeling and cable management during removal activities
Assist with segregation of scrap materials (copper, fiber, electronics)
Safety & Compliance
Follow all Central Office safety procedures and site rules
Adhere to OSHA safety standards and company safety policies
Participate in daily safety briefings and Job Safety Analyses (JSA)
Immediately report safety concerns or hazards to supervisors
Learning & Development
Develop understanding of telecom infrastructure and Central Office environments
Learn proper cable handling and removal techniques
Receive training in DC power safety and telecom equipment systems
Progress toward performing more advanced technician duties
Required Qualifications
OSHA 10 certification (required)
Ability to work safely in technical and industrial environments
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
Valid driver's license
Ability to pass background screening for Central Office access
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in construction, electrical, or telecommunications environments
Basic understanding of tools and mechanical equipment
Physical Requirements
Lift up to 75 lbs
Work on ladders and overhead cable racks
Extended standing and walking
Ability to work in confined telecom equipment environments

This is a Contract position based out of Albuquerque, NM.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $37.00/hr.
