Job Title: HVAC Technician Job Description
The HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems within the facility. This position ensures optimal system performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort by performing routine inspections, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and completing corrective repairs. The role also includes monitoring building automation systems, maintaining accurate service records, and supporting continuous improvement of facility operations.
Responsibilities
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including RTUs, split systems, VAVs, heat pumps, exhaust fans, and air handlers.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system faults using appropriate tools, meters, and diagnostic procedures.
Install, adjust, and replace components such as compressors, motors, belts, contactors, sensors, coils, and thermostats.
Monitor and troubleshoot Building Management Systems (BMS/BAS) to ensure proper equipment operation and environmental control.
Conduct refrigerant recovery, charging, and leak detection in compliance with EPA regulations.
Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including service logs, parts usage, and equipment condition reports.
Respond to hot/cold calls, humidity issues, and comfort complaints, ensuring timely resolution.
Collaborate with facility leadership to identify system improvements and energy-saving opportunities.
Ensure compliance with safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and applicable codes.
Assist with vendor coordination, equipment commissioning, and project support as needed.
Essential Skills
High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification in HVAC preferred.
3+ years of experience in commercial or industrial HVAC maintenance and repair.
Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, air distribution, and control logic.
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
Strong diagnostic skills with the ability to identify root causes efficiently.
EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with VFDs, BMS/BAS systems, and energy-efficient HVAC technologies.
Prior work in industrial, warehouse, or large commercial environments.
Ability to train or mentor junior technicians.
Familiarity with CMMS/EAM systems for work order management.
HVAC trade license preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, BMS/BAS interfaces, CMMS software.

Work Environment
Work varies between an office environment and all areas located on warehouse property. Expect exposure to dust, dirt, moving machinery, temperature changes, heights, and noise levels. Use of PPE is required. The role covers four distribution centers in the Greater Nashville area, ranging from approximately 150,000 sq ft to 3 million sq ft. The position primarily operates Monday through Friday during day shift hours, with flexibility required to cover off-hour shifts for certain PM schedules and emergency calls.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $40.00/hr.
