Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator
Job Description
Join our team as a Heavy Equipment Operator for an excavating company, where you will operate heavy machinery such as large excavators, bulldozers, and loaders. You will work on construction sites, focusing on excavating for new construction basements, foundations, and new site development. A key requirement is the ability to read blueprints, understand elevations, and perform final excavating tasks, including installing water and sewer lines.
Responsibilities
Operate heavy machinery including excavators, bulldozers, and loaders.
Read and interpret blueprints to understand project requirements and elevations.
Conduct grading, surveying, and final excavating tasks.
Install water and sewer lines as part of site development.
Lead a crew of 2 or more people, ensuring project completion from start to finish.
Communicate with clients as necessary, while primarily focusing on project execution.
Essential Skills
3-5+ years of experience operating heavy equipment such as large excavators and bulldozers.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
Proficiency in grading, trenching, and underground utility construction.
Valid driver's license.
Capability to lift 50+ lbs regularly.
Knowledge of Dane County geography and navigation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience operating various equipment, including Caterpillar and Volvo models.
Operator certification in heavy machinery.
Experience digging basements and foundations independently.

Work Environment

The company operates with small crews of 2-4 people, promoting a collaborative environment. Expect to work from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm in the summer, starting at the shop before heading to the job site. The dress code requires steel-toe boots and personal protective equipment, which the company provides. Personal hand tools, such as bags, tape, and hammers, are required.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
