ASRC Federal Communications is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator Lead for our ISS2 contract supporting our Air Force customer. This position is located at Eareckson Air Station (EAS) in Shemya, AK.This is a rotational position where the selected employee will work a schedule with 3 months on-site at Earackson Air Station and 1 month off, unpaid. While working on-site, housing is provided as a dormitory facility. All meals are served through the cafeteria.
Transportation to EAS from Anchorage, AK, is provided by government-sponsored aircraft.
Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Operator Lead oversees operation of the Vehicle Maintenance Section. Incumbent operates heavy equipment such as cranes, snowplows, dump trucks, sweepers, power shovels, heavy loaders, carryalls, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments. Equipment is used to excavate, load, or move dirt, gravel, snow, or other materials. The incumbent performs these duties at a remote location on an island in the Alaskan Aleutian chain.
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
-Operates numerous types of heavy equipment attachments such as multipurpose buckets, forklifts, wenches, booms,impactors, and grapplers.
-Operates various types of heavy equipment to haul, dump, spread, excavate, backfill, level, and grade various types ofsoils, and stabilizing materials.
-Operates various types of heavy equipment to excavate/backfill underground utility installation and repair.
-Determines the proper rigging/load securing methods/devices, and the proper utilization of such devices in accordancewith OSHA and DOT standards during lifting, loading, and transportation operations involving cranes, backhoes, loaders,tractor trailers, and forklifts.
-Reads and interprets grade slope stakes, simple sketches, and plans.
-Uses proper hand and arm signals to direct/spot other equipment operators.
-Operates equipment for sweeping runways, taxiways, roads, parking areas, etc.
-Grades gravel and dirt roads.
-Repairs runway, taxiway, ramp, and road surfaces.
-Determines materials, tools, and equipment needed for the project, and how or what construction or repairs need to bemade to meet accepted trade practices.
-Performs preventative and daily operator inspections and maintenance on equipment/vehicles in accordance with DOTand company requirements, and reports discrepancies to supervisor.
-Removes snow from road and pavement surfaces using various types of snow plows, snow blowers, sweepers, and otherpieces of equipment or devices.
-Sweeps runway, ramp, and taxiway surfaces using various types of sweeping equipment.
-Uses and maintains tools and equipment. Initiates or annotates various forms or reports as needed.
-Performs routine maintenance, servicing, and emergency repairs to equipment as required.
-Responds to a wide array of operational situations as they arise.
-Performs normal maintenance on shop equipment and maintains cleanliness of shop area as required.
-Serves as Fuel/Re-Supply Barge augmentee.
-Performs duties for Emergency Response Team as required.
-Performs related work as assigned.
Lead Duties:
-Keeps supervisor apprised of mission status
-Directs and coordinates activities of the section
-Assist craft personnel in assigned tasks
-Ensures proper housekeeping practices are observed
-Inspects and observes work to ensures compliance with applicable safety regulations' and practices
-Completes mission status reports as required
-Ensures work is scheduled and accomplished within established timelines
-Ensures subordinates time records reflect accurate hours worked on appropriate job activities
-Coordinates personnel TOS requests while maintaining mission requirements

Work Conditions:
The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to understand instructions, provide information and respond to safety warnings. Work conditions require the employee to stand; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell; and work on scaffolding and ladders. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and lift and/or move heavier objects with assistance.
Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations):
Mandatory
-High school diploma or equivalent.
-Certified heavy equipment operator.
-Certified crane operator.
-Four (4) years' experience with heavy construction-type equipment
-Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
-Obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquires
-U.S. citizen.
-Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment background check, physical and drug test.
Preferred
-Previous experience working on a military installation.
-Previous experience working in a remote location.
