Description:
The Cable Technician will perform pre‑termination procedures including organizing, forming, and dressing cables; determining correct cable length and slack; and labeling cables according to industry standards. This role involves properly suspending and supporting cable using cable trays, J‑hooks, D‑rings, bridal rings, and trapeze systems. The technician will also build telecom closets, including mounting and installing backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, and grounding equipment.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform pre‑termination procedures: organize, dress, and label cables; determine proper length and slack
Install and support cable pathways (cable tray, J‑hook, D‑rings, bridal rings, trapeze)
Install, pull, and route fiber optic and copper cabling
Terminate copper and fiber (CAT 3, CAT 5/5e/6, LC/SC connectors, patch panels)
Build and install telecom closets: racks, backboards, cross‑connects, patch panels, fiber hardware
Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required
Perform Fluke testing and certify copper/fiber cabling
Complete IDC connections (110/66 blocks, patch panels)
Test and troubleshoot horizontal and riser cables (opens, shorts, crosses, transposed pairs)
Use tone sets, volt‑ohm meters, and other diagnostic tools
Identify active voice and data circuits
Complete required paperwork: timesheets, work orders, material logs, and change orders
Assist in leading crew performance, training teammates, and coordinating project timelines
Adhere to all safety standards, quality requirements, and customer specifications
Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Skills & Experience
Experience pulling and routing fiber optic cable
Experience with Fluke testing equipment
Experience terminating copper and fiber cabling
Experience dressing cable (highly preferred)
Strong understanding of low‑voltage installation techniques
Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and labeling standards
Strong communication skills and reliability
Ability to pass drug and background checks
Ability to lift 50-75 lbs, work at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces
Ability to distinguish color codes and read small print
Valid driver's license and ability to travel within the assigned territory

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.
