We are seeking a motivated Water Mainline Operator/Excavator to support pipeline construction and maintenance projects for our Public Works Department in the Sacramento, CA area. In this role you will dig and prepare ground for waterlines according to project plans. This role will be crucial, requiring careful excavation around existing utilities, managing trench depth, and ensuring everything is compact and safe.
Will meet at yard daily and travel with crew to job sites, returning daily - 1225 Grace Ave, Sacramento, CA 95838

The Role
Excavate line and grade according to project plans
Excavate around existing utilities with precision
Understand and implement trench depth
Perform daily inspections, cleaning and routine maintenance on equipment
Adhere to safety protocols, locate existing underground utilities and implement traffic control measures
Travel to various job sites within a 2-hour radius (meet at yard & return same day)
Understand soil types, grade requirements and rigging requirements
Follow Osha and company safety standards, including shoring trenches and using spotters
Backfilling and compacting trenches and operating other machinery such as backhoe, skid steer, roller etc.
Prep and clean job sites
Dig pits and/or for trenches, backfill, compact and level to grade
Help setting up traffic control, pipefitting and clean-up as needed
Complete pre-trip and driver logs when applicable
Travel to various job sites within a 2-hour radius (meet at yard & return same day)
Drive Company vehicles responsibly and safely
Loading, properly strapping & hauling heavy equipment as well as towing a vac, dumping & cleaning the vac
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
3+ years of experience specializing in underground utility construction
Proven expertise in navigating tight, crowded and deep excavation sites with focus on safety, speed and precision
OSHA certification
Trench and excavation certification
Class A preferred with tankers endorsement and air brakes
Ability to prep and clean job sites, dig trenches or pits, backfill, and level ground to grade
Capable of safely controlling traffic in and around work zones
Experience with potholing to expose underground utilities
Basic knowledge of underground piping systems (storm, sanitary, or water) installation
Ability to assemble pipe sections, tubing, or fittings using various materials (e.g., couplings, clamps, cement, solder, etc.)
Skilled in measuring, marking, and locating pipe installations using rulers, levels, or similar tools
Ability to cut, thread, and shape pipes using saws, torches, pipe threaders, and benders
Comfortable operating hand tools, jackhammers, air compressors, and vacuums
Able to lift, carry, and transport tools and materials safely
Experience and ability to use basic hand tools, jackhammers and jumping jacks
Able to bend, lift, kneel and stand for long periods of time
Able to withstand exposure to heat, cold and rain; chemicals and fumes; dust from roads and break up of concrete; cars on roads
Able to travel to various job sites within a 2-hour radius (meet at yard & return same day)
Must provide a valid government-issued photo ID for verification; a driver's license is required if the role involves driving; Class A CDL preferred; N endorsement required if has a CDL; airbrakes & manual preferred
