We are seeking an experienced OSP Safety Inspector to support telecommunications infrastructure projects in the San Jose / Palo Alto area. This contract role is critical to ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, and workmanship across Outside Plant construction activities. The ideal candidate brings deep field experience, strong regulatory knowledge, and the ability to operate in high-reliability, zero-failure environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform on-site safety inspections of OSP construction activities, including aerial, underground, and trenching work
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, local, state, and federal safety regulations
- Enforce mission-grade safety standards for critical infrastructure projects where quality and reliability are paramount
- Identify safety hazards, stop unsafe work when necessary, and recommend corrective actions
- Conduct job site safety audits, tailgate meetings, and safety briefings
- Review and validate contractor safety plans, JHAs, and method-of-procedure documents
- Document inspection findings, incidents, near misses, and corrective actions in detailed reports
- Collaborate with construction managers, engineers, and contractors to maintain a strong safety culture
- Support incident investigations and root cause analysis as required
- Serve as a safety subject-matter expert for OSP-related activities
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in OSP construction safety inspection or OSP field operations with a strong safety focus
- Extensive knowledge of fiber, copper, aerial, underground, and trenching operations
- Strong understanding of OSHA / Cal-OSHA regulations and telecom safety standards
- Understand and execute GO95 and GO128 standards and safety requirements
- Proven experience working on mission-critical or mission-grade infrastructure projects
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, permits, and safety documentation
- Excellent documentation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
- Comfortable working independently in active construction environments
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and ability to travel locally between job sites
Preferred Certifications
- OSHA 30 (or higher)
- First Aid / CPR
- Confined Space, Trenching & Excavation, or other relevant safety certifications
- ATSSA or similar traffic control certification (a plus)
